Amodat FAQs

We have compiled a list of the questions you have been asking us about our mobile solutions. We hope these FAQ's assist you in evaluating mobile solutions and selecting the one that's right for your organization.

What is the Amodat mobile solution?

The Amodat mobile solution is an end-to-end system comprised of an advanced server - the Amodat Mobile Application Gateway™ - a device-side client application - the Amodat Mobile Desktop™ - and a web administration interface. This platform interfaces to backend software applications to enable fast and efficient data exchange between the enterprise and the PDA.

What is the Amodat Mobile Desktop™? How does it differ from other mobile CRM, sales and service applications?

The Amodat Mobile Desktop™ is a comprehensive, advanced mobile solution that integrates five Amodat vertical solutions into one. The modular architecture is flexible and scalable, enabling an enterprise to build the solution that exactly fulfills its needs, from Amodat's most basic mobile CRM to a mobile sales and service solution that can handle complex business processes.

Does your solution work offline?

Amodat's mobile solution works online and offline. In the offline mode, data is stored on the PDA until the user synchronizes the data. The user can sync the data at a determined time or, when working in areas with poor or no communication can synchronize the data when communication returns. In Amodat's solution, working in the online mode enables data to be synchronized automatically to the back-office.

How is data synchronized?

Data is synchronized through any TCP/IP communication, such as GPRS, Bluetooth and Wifi. Data can also be synchronized through cradle sync.

Which devices does your solution support? Do you recommend any particular one?

Our solution supports Palm OS v5.0 and above, Pocket PC and Windows/XP OS 2003 and above, and BlackBerry (RIM) OS v3.7 and above. Each device has its advantages and disadvantages; therefore, we do not recommend one device over another.

Can we use different devices in our company?

Yes, the Amodat solution supports all four OS on the same mobile platform. The design and functionality on the Palm, Pocket PC and Windows/XP are the same, while the BlackBerry application is optimized for the BlackBerry device and contains only the Mobile CRM application.

Which development languages do you use?

For Palm OS we develop in C, for Pocket PC and Windows/XP we use the .NET environment and for RIM, we use the JAVA development language.

To which backend enterprise software applications does your solution interface?

Amodat's mobile solution interfaces to almost any enterprise system, such as CRM, ERP, SFA, FFA and Accounting applications. Our solution is also capable of interfacing to multiple data sources.

What do you mean by "interfacing to multiple data sources"?

Amodat's platform enables the integration of separate backend systems, such as a CRM system and an Accounting system. The Amodat server is able to channel data from each of these systems to the PDA and from the PDA back to the original data source.

Does the Amodat solution require a server component?

Amodat's server, the Mobile Application Gateway™, contains our core technology and drives the mobile platform. It is a necessary requirement for all projects.

What kind and how much of the back-office data can we see on the PDA?

Your company policy determines the level and extent of mission-critical information that is to be available to the mobile user. Amodat's Mobile Client Desktop™, which in its entirety is made up of approximately 90 screens, contains wide and deep functionality, and supports a large amount of enterprise data, more than 10,000 accounts, contacts, activities, products and so on, on each data table.

Are your solutions customizable?

Amodat offers four levels of customization:

1st level: Unique, built-in customization tools, such as generic fields and changeable labels and headings. These tools, which do not require any programming, are used by the system administrator to mirror additional fields from the backend system on the PDA, as well as to change labels to reflect industry or company-specific terminology. Changes are then transmitted automatically updated on the PDAs.

2nd level: The Amodat Software Designer enables customization of our application on the business logic level, such as adding screens and tabs. It also enables building mobile applications from the ground up. The Designer will be officially released on May 20, 2005 for Pocket PC and Tablet PC, and in September 2005 for Palm.

3rd level: Customization by Amodat on the project level.

4th level: Amodat's Mobile Form & Survey and Mobile Reports are highly flexible, generic add-on applications that enable customer-defined data collection and report generation.

Does your solution support multiple languages?

Yes. Using our built-in customization tools, the system administrator can change the entire application into any language supported by the device in a matter of hours, without the need to write any code. The translated application can then be transmitted to every PDA device.

What about security?

Amodat's solution offers four types of security:

  • Fully supports VPN client on the PDA
  • Remote database deletion
  • Password log on authorization
  • Automatic database erase after failed login attempts
